Abstract We summarize a decade of effort by the Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, and Security–Regolith Explorer (OSIRIS-REx) mission team to build up unique capabilities, processes, procedures required accomplish unprecedented navigation performance during proximity operations at asteroid (101955) Bennu. Stereophotoclinometry was key technology used for digital terrain model (DTM) generation landmark navigation, enabling estimation spacecraft trajectories Bennu’s geophysical parameters. outline concept OSIRIS-REx wide array testing verification efforts leading OSIRIS-REx’s arrival relate outcome these experiences operations. discuss DTM operations, including detailed lessons learned carry forward future missions.
